January 2009

OFFICIAL LAUNCH

Ladies and Gentleman

I would like to extend a warm invitation for you to join us for a presentation, brief discussion and some light refreshment on:

Thursday 22 January at 5.30 for 6.00 p.m.

Fyvie Hall, Regent Street

Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz or 'Witkacy’ (1885-1939) was one of the most colourful figures to emerge from 20th century Poland. He was a dramatist, poet, novelist, painter, photographer, art theorist and philosopher. The Witkacy 2009 festival, and the events leading up to it, will be a commemoration and celebration of the wonder of his life and work.

The University of Westminster is believed to have the largest proportion of Polish students of any UK Higher Education Institution. We hope this festival will provide an opportunity to engage this community and create valuable opportunities for links with overseas institutions including Wroclaw University and the Warsaw Theatre Academy. This project is now supported at both Parliamentary & Ministerial levels. U.S.A. Interns will commence placements soon, and students of the University have been invited to participate in the seven elements of the September 2009 programme which include theatre, a conference, and multi-media events.

We are grateful for the support of the Pro Vice Chancellor Myszka Guzkowska, and members of the wider academic community at the University of Westminster.

I have made the key information about this project available at:
